Washington Update
Maggie Elehwany, Vice President of Government Affairs and Policy, National Rural Health Association (NRHA)
The Rural Health Clinic Program faces significant legislative and regulatory issues in 2007. During this time, we will look at pending legislative and regulatory changes for the RHC program, and how these changes could impact the daily business of Rural Health Clinics in the coming year.

Success Stories From the Field
Jerry Carbajal, Hood Medical Clinics, and Angela Jackson, Administrator, FMCH Clinics
Individuals currently operating both freestanding and provider based Rural Health Clinics will share their stories of success and provide attendees with an opportunity to contribute their own examples of best practices. This session provides an opportunity to learn from others with similar experiences, and impart hands-on knowledge from others “in the field.”

Medicare Update
Captain Corinne Axelrod, Center for Medicare Management, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
The Medicare Program is a critically important payer for the Rural Health Clinic Program. This session includes an update from CMS staff on the status of proposed RHC regulations, and will include a review of significant provisions of the proposed RHC rule.

Survey and Certification
Craig Jimerfield, Texas Department of State Health Services
CMS oversees compliance with the Medicare health and safety standards through state-based survey and certification procedures. This session will provide an overview of the process and substance of state inspection procedures, and what a Rural Health Clinic must do to meet and exceed those requirements. This session is provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Workshop Wrap-up Panel

The NRHA President and Rural Health Clinics Constituency Group Chair will close out the 2007 conference with an open town hall meeting on issues and concerns impacting Rural Health Clinics and membership in the NRHA.
