Community Health Centers

The Community Health Center program has successfully expanded access to care within rural communities across America. The NRHA advocates for increased funding for the CHC program, and NRHA supports efforts to expand CHCs into rural underserved communities.

There are currently CHCs in all states and all U.S. territories, totally more than 1150 community health centers nationwide. More than half of these organizations are located in rural areas. They provide vital primary care to more than 17 million Americans with limited financial resources.

The NRHA maintains a Community Operated Practices Constituency Group. This constituency recognizes the interests of members affiliated with a primary care practice operated and governed by a community board of directors, such as a community health center. Greg Dent is the chair of this group and can be contacted at: gdent@chwg.org

For additional legislative and regulatory questions about CHCs, please contact Maggie Elehwany at: Elehwany@nrharural.org
