NRHA partners with Clinton Global Initiative to improve border health
The National Rural Health Association just announced our commitment to develop a National Rural Community Health Worker Training Network to help recruit and retain community health workers to rural and underserved areas along the U.S.-Mexico border. This effort is part of a commitment to action that stemmed from NRHA’s participation at the Clinton Global Initiative America meeting in 2011. NRHA is working with the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Commission as well as state and federal partners to help enhance access to care in this region. Within a year, NRHA will train at least 60 community health workers with the first training to take place next week in Denver in conjunction with our 35th Annual Rural Health Conference. Twenty-one community health workers from Arizona will participate, and this will mark the first time many of them have traveled on a plane or outside of Arizona. “The National Rural Health Association is both humbled and excited to be able to offer this opportunity to participants that may not otherwise have this experience,” said Alan Morgan, NRHA CEO.
