Super Committee to hold public hearing

Less than five weeks remain for the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction to submit a deficit reduction proposal to Congress.  Members of the Super Committee have scheduled a public hearing, “Overview: Discretionary Outlays, Security and Non-Security,” on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 216 Hart Senate Building in Washington, DC. Various proposals to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction include billions in reimbursement cuts to rural hospitals. Proposed cuts will exacerbate significant funding shortfalls for rural hospitals. Rural Hospitals, including Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs), are vital access points for rural seniors who are, per capita, older, poorer and sicker than their urban counterparts. If these proposals to cut billions in Medicare reimbursements go into effect, CAHs would lose money, jeopardizing access to inpatient and emergency care.
