Protect Medicare Dependent Hospitals and Low-Volume Hospitals

Join NRHA’s Virtual March for Rural Hospitals. Call, Tweet and Facebook your members of Congress, and ask them to cosponsor S. 2620 and H.R. 5943, the Rural Hospital Access Act of 2012. If Congress doesn't act by Oct. 1, the Medicare Dependent Hospital (MDH) program and Low- Volume Hospital (LVH) adjustment will expire causing rural hospitals to lose millions of dollars resulting in layoffs, reduced wages, economic loss, reduced service, or worse, closed doors. Members of Congress will be home in their districts until September 7. Remind them how important the MDH and LVH designations are to your hospital and community by:
  • Attending town halls. Be prepared to ask questions and share your stories about rural hospitals.
  • Writing a letter or op-ed to your local newspaper.
  • Inviting members of Congress and health legislative assistants to tour your facility.
  • Holding a press conference about what these programs mean to your hospital and the community.
